Will these side effect go away over time or is this as good as it gets. I never had any problem before except for gall bladder pain. Thanks Trace

Brief Answer:
Most likely your symptoms will improve a week following surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Hope you are feeling better after your gall bladder surgery except for the symptoms mentioned in your query. I hope you had a laproscopic cholecystectomy surgical procedure which is a less invasive surgery than the conventional gall bladder surgery.

Since you had your surgery recently about 5 days back, it will take some more time for you to recover completely and get back to normal. Your unusual feeling and headaches will improve with time. Most patients take about a weeks time to start feeling normal. Since you are eating healthy and drinking lots of water, having no problems with visiting toilet regularly, it looks like your post operative period has been normal.

Some people have symptoms such as indigestion, bloating, flatulence or diarrhea after this surgery and in few of them it can continue for few days to months. Adjustments to your diet can help in this situation. Anyone having these symptoms is asked to reduce fats and spices in diet and to slowly increase the amount of fiber in the diet.

You should be meeting your doctor at least once after 15 days from surgery and as a general protocol.

The only symptoms to watch out for after gall bladder surgery include persistent fever, leakage of any fluid or pain at the operated site, yellow coloration of skin or eyes, worsening abdominal pain, distention, continuous vomiting. If you do not have these symptoms then you are safe.

From a week after surgery you can put yourself in to doing light work. However please avoid lifting heavy objects and doing intense physical exercise till your doctor says its fine and this might take 4 to 6 weeks in most people.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
