Suggest Remedy For Dry Mouth, Nausea And Blurred Vision While On Lexapro

Posted on Thu, 6 Aug 2015
Question: On Saturday around noon (now it's Monday night) I took my new prescription of 5mg Lexapro. I have not taken any more of the drug since then. I am currently taking 150 mg Wellbutrin, 150 mg Lamictal, and 30 mg Vyvanse as well. I seem to be quite sensitive to medication—I had facial twitching and neck issues after four days of Reglan. Anyway, on the first night, I had a dry mouth and nausea, as my doctor warned me about. But suddenly when I turned off all the lights and went to bed, I looked around and everything seemed very strange. Piles of clothes appeared to be breathing, my dresser drawers looked like they were shaking, and the poka dots on my sheets kept expanding and shrinking. Shortly after, my heart started racing, I was sweating, and it felt like my whole body was on fire. I was able to go to sleep after taking .5 mg Lorazepam.

Sunday night, I got the dry mouth and vision disturbances, but I had taken a Lorazepam beforeheand, so I wasn't too freaked out about it. The dry mouth is gone, but when I'm in the dark, I still have the vision disturbances. I took Lorazepam again, so I'm not panicking. I know Lexapro has a half life of about 27-30 hours, so more than 3/4 should be out of my system by now. Is it possible that this isn't a side effect and there's something wrong with my brain? If not, how long will this side effect last? Should I see a doctor? I'm quite concerned.

Brief Answer:
It is likely side effetcs of escitalopram & drug interactions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Dry mouth and nausea are very common side effects of lexapro. The panic episode after you wake up from bed is also likely due to leaxpro though it is rare side effect but can happen.

Escitalopram has drug interaction with welbutrin and vyanse.Wellbtrin can increase the blood levels of lexapro, which may increase other side effects.Lexapro may increase the effects of vyanse, and side effects such as jitteriness, nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, and racing thoughts have been reported.

So these drug interactions are also likely responsible for your problem.

No probable any neurological/brain issue as you felt better with lorazepam.I think you should be fine with a day now. You can take lorazepam 0.25 to 0.5 mg according to your need. Do not take lexapro. If even after a day your problem persist significantly consult doctor for evaluation.
Later on consult your doctor and inform about these points what I have mentioned so alternative of lexapro can be prescribed considering your problem.

Hope I have answered your query I will be happy to help further.
