Posted on Tue, 26 Apr 2016
Question: Hi,
I am a 30Yr old male. From past 4-5 yrs, I get severe headache in complete head(NOT on any particular side) whenever I go out in Sun i.e in heat. It goes off only if I put some balm and take sleep. This headache doesnt happen in cold weather and I would be perfectly fine in winters.
I have seen couple of doctors, brain CT scan was completely normal and they confirmed its migrain and suggested me to avoid going out in XXXXXXX weather. But I am not satisfied and need a permanent solution for it. Please provide suggestions.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment and precautions as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Headache in young with negative brain imaging is most commonly tension type or migraine headache.
Migraine headache is unilateral or bilateral, throbbing in nature, Aggravating on exertion, fasting, sunlight.
The treatment is according to number of episodes.
Prevention should include timely eating, proper night sleep, avoiding fasting, chocolate and coffee.
For prophylaxis of migraine propranolol, Topiramate, Flunarizine or divalproate may be taken in consultation with a neurologist.
The migraine is common and mostly due to improper life style and improves on changing lifestyle accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thanks a lot Dr. Neeraj!
As you have suggested changes in lifestyle; mostly I take 7-8 hrs of sleep a day from 11pm-6:30 am & a balanced vegetarian diet. I am a software engineer by profession but working condition do not include tension/pressure, personal life is also smooth. Couple of follow up questions :
>What more should I do ?
>I drink 3-4 cup of tea(with milk & sugar) daily as I am very fond of tea. Do I need to control it?
>How much the medicines listed by you could be helpful in providing permanent solution ?
>Do you think Yoga/Pranayam might help ?

Brief Answer:
Take steps as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
The trigger to migraine headache are once you break your routine lifestyle like awakening till late nights, missing breakfast or delay in lunch.
Yoga, relaxation exercises definitely help.
The prophylaxis treatment for migraine is usually given for 6 months. The attacks may be controlled completely in most patients.
You can decrease tea to 1-2 cups per day. This level of intake may not be harmful.
But it is a disease related to life style and may reoccur in future too depending upon conditions.
No permanent cure.
