Question: Hi. Today when I was walking in the park someone kicked a soccer ball very hard and i tried to get out of the way however the ball hit me right in the right leg. My leg now hurts and is very red. I always worry about any little incident since i suffered a concussion almost two years ago and have still been dealing with vertigo and neck stiffness. This incident with the soccer ball cannot cause any type of injury or concussion correct? Thank you!

Thank you so much!!

Brief Answer:
No concussion

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

However when it comes to concussion that is out of the question. Concussion refers to traumatic brain injury and there is no involvement of the brain at all in the episode you describe, you do not have to worry about that.

As for any other type of injury if the impact is really strong there may be some injury to the tissue. You do not specify where you were hit exactly, where is the red and painful part. Generally speaking the worrying thing would be if there was damage to the joints, if the pain and redness involves a joint (such as knee or ankle) with limited range of motion (I really consider it unlikely to happen from a ball hit, joint supporting system is very tough, but saying just in case).
Meanwhile if the joint is not involved and the damaged area from the impact is the skin and underlying muscles, painful as it may be for the moment, it is benign. There is no need to do much apart from some over the counter pain killer if needed, should improve back to normal gradually over days/weeks as inflammation subsides.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
