Question: Hi, my daughter is 5 years old. She was born with Diaphramatic hernia and has always been prone to coughs. I have recently moved to XXXXXXX from XXXXXXX and her cough episodes have flared up substantially... almost once in 3 weeks. She has been on Seroflo 125 inhaler since december. i am also giving her Montair LC syrup and Ambrolite-D syrup. currently she is starting with another episode- startin to cough all night. should i add Levolin syrup?

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation should help in reducing the cough.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Diaphragmatic hernia leads to compression of the lungs, thereby causing lung hypoplasia. Even after surgery, the lung(s) might not function as efficiently as in case of other normal individuals. The cough cough be due to two broad causes:
* Diaphramatic irritation, thus stimulating coughing.
* Increased tone in the airway tracts. This can be confirmed if wheezing or stridor is observed. In such a case we would not really worry about the former. Seroflo contains salmeterol, a long acting bronchodilator, along with fluticasone, a steroid. It would prove useful in such a case. Levolin contains levosalbutamol, another bronchodilator. You can give it if there is wheezing, but otherwise it is not needed to be given separately.Continue to give Montair LC off and on once daily as needed.

I would strongly insist you to give steam inhalation along with the inhalers. Water in form of vapor reaches deep inside and helps in diluting the cough, thus providing relief. It is very important to be given.

Regards
