Suggest Remedies For Brain Hypoperfusion

Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: need some new ideas because I have a 33 year old son who is disabled and has major cognitive problems plus a constant feeling that he does not have good blood flow to his brain. IT all started after a bout with anorexia 17 years ago plus he was heading soccer balls at 105 pounds. I have been to many specialists and they saw on a SPECT scan that he has hypoperfusion to four lobes of his brain, but I need direction as he is getting worse. HE has had no life for 17 years and is on disability and I need to know what kind of test he could have an who would do them.

Brief Answer:
Evaluation of vascular problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

General brain hypoperfusion found in SPECT doesn't point to any specific disease.

Only cases with substance abuse (cocaine, crack, alcohol) may result in such SPECT scan results.

General hypoperfusion may indicate also impaired blood flow from developmental abnormalities or occlusion of cervical and brain arteries, so, in my opinion, MRI with vascular protocol ( MRA ) of neck and brain vessels is necessary to evaluate any vascular problems.

Brain trauma SPECT examination results usually in focal ( not general ) areas of hypoperfusion.

Discuss with a Neurologist about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

I have heard this before from an on-line neurologist, but when I call neurologists offices, they refuse to treat him without a diagnosis from another doctor. IT feels impossible to get anyone to help me. Do you have any ideas for centers for neurological diagnosis?

Are there any treatments for these things?

Brief Answer:
Discuss with your son's primary care Doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

I think your son's primary care Doctor can order necessary tests to have a correct diagnosis.

Only after a correct diagnosis, we can say if the condition is treatable, and proper treatment ways.

Hope I helped you.

Greetings.
