Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Let me mention that HbA1c levels indicate an average of the control of blood sugar levels over the last 3 months. So, it is actually not the HbA1c level you seek to control, it is the underlying blood sugar levels that have to be kept in control. The first thing to be done is dietary modification and regular exercise and morning walk. This is the most important step. This has to be followed by regular medication. The best medicine with least side effects is insulin. Usually a long acting insulin is coupled with shorter acting insulins. The dose needs to be titrated before a stable dose is decided upon. There are other newer oral agents like sitaglyptin but still insulin injections are the best mode of treatment. However, in terms of safety (not getting hypoglycemia), metformin is preferable as it does not usually lead to hypoglycemia.

It is also important to take green leafy vegetables regularly in diet. Colourful fruits and vegetables are to be taken as well.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards

The diet and metformin has not worked I am at the point, according to my doctor to have to choose something else like Victosa or Trulicity or Invokana not insulin. My question is which one is best for Type II diabetes. Which one works better and has fewer side effects. You did not answer the question.

Brief Answer:
These can be taken. They are safe, effective and have low side effects.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Victoza (liraglutide), Trulicity (dulaglutide) or Invokana (canagliflozin) are very good and effective medicines. However, they have two major problems. Firstly they are costly, and secondly insulin is still a better alternative. However, if you speak about oral antidiabetics, these are the best choice and have the least amount of side effects (assuming that you take them in the right dose).
