Suggest Medication For A Blood Clot In The Leg

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Im visiting a foreign country and have the symptoms of a lower leg blood clot. (minimum swelling, pain and tenderness on my knee) I didn't injure it-it has just developed over the past week and seems to be getting worse. If I can purchase an anticoagulant, what dosage should I get to tie me over until I get back home?

Brief Answer:
you'd better visit a local doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I can suggest (and I will since this is your question) treatments for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) but I would strongly recommend visiting a local doctor. Vein thrombosis is a serious disorder to be left undiagnosed and its treatment has potential complications (even some fatal ones), so you'd better know what's going on before starting treatment.

Low molecular weight heparins are good and easy to use for DVT. Enoxaparin dosage is 1mg/Kg twice daily or 100 anti-Xa IU per Kg of body weight. Tinzaparin can be given once daily. The dosage is 175 IU per Kg of body weight. The dosages may differ in patients with impaired renal function.

Please contact a doctor as soon as possible. I strongly discourage using such drugs without medical assessment and supervision.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
