Brief Answer:
600 IU (15 mcg) daily!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The daily recommended dose of vitD for a 60years old person living in the northern pole is 600 IU (15 mcg). I will also recommend that you get your VitD blood levels measured. If they are lower than normal, this daily recommended intake can be increased to compensate for this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

In a recent blood test my vitamin D was 50.0 nmol/L. My doctor considered this to be low and suggested that I take 3,000 - 4,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day. I find this to be a high amount and would like to get a second opinion on my doctor's recommendation.

Brief Answer:
up to 4000IU are tolerable!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As long as it is less than 4000IU, it is not harmful to the body. I will concur with your doctor's recommendation given the fact that you need active restoration before daily maintenance as opposed to daily maintenance only.

I wish you well and feel free to follow up with me if need be.
