Question: My son is 7 month old. born with 2.29 kg weight (cesarian delivery in 36 weeks) in July 2017. Didn't get mother's milk. He started solids last month (6 months) and gained only 100 gm weight in last one month. Earlier he was gaining average 600 to 800 gm per month. His current weight is 6.3 kg. We give him XXXXXXX drop (6 drops), Uprise D3 (1ml), and Ferris (3 drops) daily on doctor's advice since last 6-7 months. Kindly provide me a suitable food chart for him with your precious suggestions.

Brief Answer:

Suggestions on complementary feeding

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Your kid's birth weight and current weight are good. My congratulations for it.

At this age, you can start giving Cerelac stage one rice or Nestum rice stage 1 etc. All are the same in calories and energy.

Only thing is palatability which is subjective for each kid.

Other home-made food options will be -
1. Daal and rice well cooked and made into a porridge along with ghee
2. Boiled apple or banana and mashed into a paste.
3. Any made cereal porridge preparation with additional ghee added.

Remember certain principles like -
1. Add one food material/cereal or fruit per week. This will be useful because if he develops vomiting or diarrhoea, we will know what to avoid.
2. Add vegetables and fruits made into a paste surely to avoid constipation.
3. Do not add too much sugar as it may cause diarrhoea.

Avoid - non-vegetarian till 1 year and ground nuts till 2 years of age.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
