Suggest Alternate Over-the-counter Medication For Lorazepam
Question: Sir, My wife was diagnosed with idiopathic generalised epilepsy ( juvenile myoclonic epilepsy). She was advised to take tab levipil 500 mg (1-0-2).
Yesterday while sleeping in the night she had a epileptic seizure which lasted for almost 5 mins. We are now located in a remote place and she is now admitted in a local hospital. But a neurologist is not available here. Her doctor had earlier advised that in case of emergency the following medicines needs to be given.
1. Inj. Lorazepam 2 mg IV stat
2. Inj. Levipil 1 gm in 100 ml NS over 1 hour as infusion.
The hospital in which she is admitted does not have the second medicine. Inj lorazepam was given to her. Kindly suggest any equivalent medicine for inj levipil.

If she has been given lorazepam and no seizure occurred again then no need for levipil injection.
Give her usual oral levipil if able to take orally or through nasogastric tube.
If not controlled then another antiepileptics may be needed like Valproate inj in 500mg twice daily dosing.

Thank you doctor. Her seizure occurred at around 1.55 AM and until now (9AM) no other seizure has occurred. I will give her the regular levipil 500 mg tab once she wakes up. Currently she is having one 500 mg tab in the morning and two 500mg tab in the night. Should I change the dosage or continue with the same? Also is there any further tests/investigations that I need to carry out?
