Hello, XXXXXXX,
From the brief description of your symptoms,
it sounds like you have acute gastroenteritis.
There are several causes for this. Food poisoning
is most common. Eating contaminated food or drink
is a major cause. Usually, poultry, cheese, under cooked
chicken are the culprits. Other agents that are culprits
are viral agents such as Rota virus or Norwalk virus.
The symptoms come on acute and self limited in most
cases.
Rarely, if you have done any recent travels, think of
"Traveler's Diarrhea" caused by E.coli.
Other organisms include Giardia and Cryptosporidia.
Sea foods , fresh water contamination, Berries (Contaminated)
are responsible.
Make sure you stay on clear liquids-Apple juice, white grape
juice or white cranberry juice. Electrolyte solutions like
Sport drinks are helpful. Bismuth subsalicylate liquid or
tablets control diarrhea. There is also over the counter
Imodium which helps control the runs.
If you develop fever, chills, worsening diarrhea or vomiting,
plese see your doctor or vivit the nearest medical facility for
additional treatment.
You might need antibiotic therapy.
Wish you well.
