Question: Starting 23 July, I took Augmentin for 3 weeks and Medrol for 2 weeks for an ear infection. nearing the end of 3 weeks, my urine was very cloudy, the urine did not come full force and seemed to be stuck in there, had to go often. Unfortunately, my city was in lock down from Covid starting 30 July so could not see a doctor. After 8 weeks, the cloudiness was much less. In 9 weeks, for 1 or 2 days, my urine had a very strong foul smell and had a greenish tint. a few days later after diner and a few drinks, I felt nausea and proceeded to feel freezing cold and shivering uncontrollably for a few hours. When that subsided, my body was in dull pain all over, but more around my kidneys. I also had a bad headache and could not sleep. What is going on? I see that Augmentin can cause cloudy urine. I did see a doctor, but since we don't speak the same language and other reasons, he didn't listen to what i said and attributed it to a urine infection. He gave me Cravit 500mg (1.5 cap per day) 2 days ago. I not feel great, but the headache and fever have gone. It seems to me that the

Brief Answer:
May be due to urinary tract infection, require further evaluation...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, it may be due to urinary tract infection.

As you had nausea, fever with shivering, pain around kidneys, so I think we have to rule out Renal stone.

So for further assessment, I would suggest you to consult with urologist. He may procure ultrasound abdomen and pelvis, urine culture, complete hemogram as per evaluation.

Till then for pain Continue tablet acetaminophen. You can take urine alkaliser syrup containing disodium hydrogen citrate. Keep yourself well hydrated.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. I don't think that it may be due to tablet augmenting.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

The instructions for Augmentin clearly state:
Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur while taking amoxicillin / clavulanate:

Symptoms of overdose

Abdominal or stomach pain
cloudy urine
diarrhea
greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
sleepiness

Note the symptoms I had taking Augmentin are cloudy urine and decreased amount of urine.

I don't believe urinary tract infection covers what happened here.

Brief Answer:
These are very rare side effects. Please see detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Helo,

Thank you for reply.

As you mentioned, these are very rare side effects of tablet augmentin.

But as per your history i e fever, nausea, pain around kidney may indicates renal stone which may cause recurrent urinary tract infection.

So kindly follow all measures as suggested earlier.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello

So I took Augmentin for 3 weeks and my urine became cloudy and had difficulty peeing - and your disregarding this because it is rare. your answer is not believable.
I understand your wanting to defend your initial answer, but at the sacrifice of someone's health? Do you really want to do that?
