Question: Hello Doctor,
I had sex with my girlfriend for first time. The day which we had sex is her expected days for her menses. She got bleeding because her hymen got broken. I didn't ejaculate inside her vagina. We had sex 2 times. But her menses is getting delayed but she is facing the pain which she usually get during the menses period. She checked entering her finger inside her vagina, she got some blood inside the vagina after the next day when we had sex.

Our question is,
What is the reason for delay in her menses period?
Will the menses blood struck in her vagina?
What is the reason for the pain in her abdomen?
Will it make her pregnant?
Will it make her pregnant if we have sex during her menses?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

Since you had intercourse with your girlfriend close to her expected date of periods, so chances of pregnancy are less. Pregnancy occurs only during the time of ovulation which occurs around day 14 of the menstrual cycle. Ovulation is the release of a single, mature egg from a follicle that developed in the ovary and occurs on day 14 of a menstrual cycle.

However to completely rule out pregnancy, firstly your girlfriend needs to test her pregnancy status by doing a urine for pregnancy test for which kits are readily available in market. Use a morning sample of urine and presence of two lines means a positive test. Alternately you can consult a gynecologist immediately who will do a serum beta hcg test to confirm or rule out pregnancy.

If pregnancy is ruled out and periods doesn’t come, then the other causes may include hormonal imbalance or other medical conditions that affect the ovaries, uterus, hypothalamus, or pituitary gland.

Even stress and anxiety can cause delaying of periods and the pain that she is having can be due to premenstrual syndrome. Pregnancy cannot occur during menses and the menstrual blood cannot be struck in any such case.

Your girlfriend is just having delayed periods and it is important to rule out the above mentioned causes.
For the abdominal pain, keeping a heating pad across the abdomen or taking a hot bath or shower may help.
