Question: On and off for the past day I have been experiencing a dull cramp like pain adjacent to the right side of my belly button. Almost like a muscle spasm in my stomach area. I have also been experiencing lots of gas. I have no vomiting and normal bowel movements. What could this be. Seems to be less this morning

Brief Answer:
Bloating and excessive gas on intestines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I believe that the pain you are having around belly button may be related to excessive gas on colon.
Chewing gum, smoking and certain foods such beans , lentils, vegetables ( broccoli, cauliflower) , fruits (prune), carbonated drinks and drink which contains fructose can cause bloating and gas.
Avoid this kind of foods may help you reduce bloating.
You may use simethicone containing products found over the counter in pharmacy to help you with the excessive gas .

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks for your timely reply. I was a little worried about my appendix. Am I correct in assuming that such pain would get progressively worse? I seem to be feeling a bit better
