Question: My wife has been suffering from hoarse throat, runny AND blocked nose ,and fever ranging from 99.5 to 100.1 from Monday ,and today is Saturday. She got this from my 8 year old , who has been down with fever from Sat evening till Tuesday night, and again resuming on Thursday 6 pm. A blood test for my son showed wbc count is low and CRP is normal. The doctor has given antiviral for my son.
Since the fever is coming back at unpredictable times, should we consider antiviral for my sun too?

Brief Answer:
I don't think he needs antivirals.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I don't think she needs antivirals even your soul too. If she is having a viral infection the doctor may need to find what type of viral infection is it and why she needs antivirals.
I think she and your son doesn't need antivirals at all or at least need to determine the type of viral infection.
I believe they may need to do covid19 test to check if they have covid19.
She may need antivirals if she has other health conditions making the situation worse
Hope I have answered the question.

We had done the covid panbio test at home the day fever started. My wife did an rtpcr too, on her second day of fever. What we do know is that after 3 doses of antiviral, my son's fever didn't come all day today. but my wife seems better without antiviral

Brief Answer:
Better don't use antivirals.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I think she doesn't need to use antivirals and it is a good news he is better too.
Antivirals can be started within 48 hours from the onset of symptoms and that's the time when they are most effective.
Starting antivirals now will not help her .
