Question: My 82 yr old husband suddenly developed a severe chill. We ate lunch in a resaturant. He compained of “feeling a draft”, which I did not feel, then ate a full bowl of soup. Returning from the rest room 15 min. After eating he was shivering uncontrollably. He’s had trouble with fingers going white in the past, feeling cold, but both hands, fingers and palms were solid white. His arms and back of hands seemed dark red to me. His temp. is 99.6. He’s under 2 blankets fully clothed in bed now, still shivering, but not as much. He refuses to go to the ER. any ideas as to a cause? He’s had a flu shot.

Brief Answer:
Fever or abnormal blood glucose level

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma’am, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but he has a mild fever which could be the cause of chills. I would recommend that you give him an antipyretic as ibuprofen tablets 200 mg. if no improvement within an hour then I would recommend that you take him to the ER to measure his blood glucose level and exclude hypo/hyperglycemia. I hope you find this helpful..
