Question: I’ve been on the pill less than a year. I was meant to take a 7 day break New Year’s Eve but thought I was gonna loose my virginity so conitued my pill not taking a 7 day break. I didn’t loose my virginity and want to continue for a 3rd month as I want to loose my virginity tomorrow. Should I wait & take a 7 day break or am I ok to continue to take it for a 3rd month & not get any bleeding again? Online it said it’s ok to continue and not get any bleeding.

Brief Answer:
Its ok to not bleed for 3 months, but rather not do it if is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for using "Ask a doctor" service.

I guess you take the 21days pill. In this case you should take the 7 day break. And then you will have a bleeding.
If you take the 28days pill, then you do not need to take a break before moving to the next package because the last 7 pills of the package in this case are just vitamins. So you will have your period even if you are continuously taking the pill.

It is ok to not bleed for 3 months. Only I am afraid that by taking hormons continuously and not stoping, you will react with side effects because this way your hormonal total is not balanced. During that recommended break you do not get pregnant. It is a necessary step.

I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Kind regards, Dr. Klarida Papaqako, General and Family physician.

It said on the NHS website as well that you don’t have to bleed for 2/3 packs then bleed for 4 days after you finished the 2nd or 3rd pack.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is safe to use like that.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question.

Yes, it is safe to take the pill continuously without having a break after 21 pills of the pack. So you finish the 21st pill and you start directly with the other pack the next day.

This is done by some women who do not want to have bleeding. And it is ok. But sometimes happens anyway bleeding or more a slight spotting- so be aware and do not worry.

Also keep in mind that the pill does not protect you from sexually transmitted infections, only from pregnancy. So I would advise using anyway a condom.

Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako

As I said I’m on the 21 day pill I was on it for 2 months no break then stopped talking it Saturday so I could have a break. Is it ok if I finish today and start taking my pill again tomorrow for another 2 months no break then a 4 day break?. Is that ok on the 21 day pill 2 months no break 4 day break then start pill again on 5th day?.

Before New Year’s Eve I was taking the pill as stated 21 days then 7 day break. I only took them 2 packs in a row no breaks now a 4 day break starting again tomorrow which is the 5th day as it said online it’s ok to do that. If you could answer both my questions today that would be great

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Yes it is ok to do that.
You can start on the 5th day of break and then go on with 2 packages of 21 days without a break. As I said the only difference with if you do the break is that you will bleed while now not.

Kind regards,
