Question: I’m a 51 year old premenopausal female. Have been seeing black specks in my urine for about a year. My urine does test positive for microscopic blood. I’ve had 2 cystoscopes at the urologist. Last one was 6/19. Cat scan 1/19 and Urogram with contrast 6/19. Urine was also checked for cancer cells 6/19. Nothing was found in any of these tests. I remain concerned.

Brief Answer:
It can be a normal wear and tear process.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Urinary tract infection and stone diseases are the most common cause for black specks or sediments in the urine. You can go for a urine culture study to rule out
.
In some individuals especially who are suffering from long standing diabetes or liver diseases can cause these symptoms which is quite normal and no treatment is required. In most of the cases these are remains of the cells shed of form part of urinary tract as a part of normal wear and tear process.
As the cystoscopy and CT scan are within the normal range, nothing much to worry and no treatment is required either,
Thanks

Do you feel further testing is warranted? Would the tests I have had rule out cancer as a cause? Feel like these specks may be dry blood. However, urine remains clear. These specks either float or stick to the inside of the toilet bowl. Thanks for your help. Very worried about cancer.

Brief Answer:
Cancer is unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As you have done cystoscopy and and CT scan and both of them came as negative, so the possibility of cancer is very very unlikely.
You can go for a urine microscopy to check whether it is blood or other crystals.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
