I’ve Notice Over The Past Week That My Urine Has

default
Posted on Sun, 21 Mar 2021
Question: I’ve notice over the past week that my urine has an unusual odor. It is similar to what it smells like after eating asparagus. I had UA done because of the odor, and it showed +1 WBC, they couldn’t send for a culture because of lack of a sample. I was given Bactrim DS to take twice daily for a week. But I’m wondering if the odor could indicate something else. My vitamin D was recently checked and it was very high over >100. No exact measurement was determined. I’ve also started a new RX-adderall. I was concerned about hypercalcemia and possible kidney issues-I don’t know how long my vitamin D has been this high (over supplementation). I don’t really have any other symptoms except brain fog and concentration issues and I’ve noticed some changes in my hearing over the last few months.

Brief Answer:
Probably an urinary tract infection is the cause of your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are many causes related to an unusual urine smell.
It can be related to food that you have eaten such as asparagus.
Certain supplements can also cause a change in the urine smell.
Urinary tract infections can also be the cause.
High vitamin D does not cause any specific smell in urine, so it can not be the cause.
If the smell is related to a urinary tract infection, it will probably go away after using Bactrim.
Meanwhile, I also suggest to drink a lot of liquids and especially cranberry juice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!
