Is There Any Risk For HIV Or Herpes After Fingering?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Jun 2015
Question: Hi,

I'm a 39 year old homosexual male. I had casual but protected anal sex last night with another man. I noticed some small blisters at the base of his shaft but still engaged in sexual activity with him..
A few seconds after he started to put the condom on his penis he realized it was 'inside-out' so he turned the right way and put it on again. Also, prior to putting the condom he fingered my anus after touching hi penis several times.

My three questions are:
- is there a significant risk of herpes or other STIs transmission from the condom that was in contact with his penis/blisters before he turned and penetrated me?.
- I don't recall seeing any pre-cum in his penis prior to the anal intercourse but assuming there was, Is there a risk of HIV infection related to the condom incident (inside out potentially in contact with his pre-cum and then turned and in contact with my anus)?

- is there a risk for HIV or Herpes related to the fingering?
Thanks so much

Brief Answer:
Low risk of HIV . Higher chances of HSV if active lesions are due to herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic. I have gone through the details.

If the blisters seen are likely due to herpes(HSV),then there are chances of transmission of herpes. Herpes can be transmitted by skin to skin contact or by kiss or by intercourse. The chances are higher if there are active lesions at the time of contact.

There are possibilities of secretions coming in contact due to reversing the condom. So it is similar to unprotected intercourse. So there is risk of transmission of HIV or herpes.
The chances of transmission of HIV by Fingering is very low.Herpes can be transmitted if active lesions are due to herpes.
You can get the person tested for HIV and herpes simplex virus(HSV).You can also go for STDs tests.
You can get back for any clarification.

Thank you Dr.

I have three follow up questions:

1. I didn't see any lesions or redness around the blisters. Does that reduce the risk of transmission?

2. Should i get tested for herpes immediately or wait? I know it takes some tome for some viruses to incubate.

3. For the hiv risk, described above. Do you recommend PEP treatment?

Thank you so much!

Brief Answer:
Presence of active herpes lesion than redness is important.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.

Redness around blisters may not alter the risk of transmission. Diagnosis of herpes is important. Presence of active herpes lesions increases risk.

Antibodies against Herpes simplex virus 1&2 can be done after 2-3 months if asymptomatic, earlier If symptoms develop.

You can confirm the HIV status of the person. If he is HIV positive then PEP may be advisable You can discuss with your doctor regarding pep.If negative no risk of HIV transmission.

You can get back for any clarification.
Thank you
