Is Routine Deworming Required For A 22 Month Old Infant?

Question: my 22 month old infant picks up toys and other XXXXXXX naks from the floor and puts them all in her mouth very often. Should i do a round of deworming for her (though there are no symptoms of any ailment)? My Elder daughter's pediatrician had started her deworming every 6 months once she was 2 yrs old with Zental 10ml dose. pls suggest if the same dose of the medicine can be strated for my infant.

Dear Ms XXXX

Deworming is not indicated in baby less than 24 months of age unless specifically indicated. It is only indicated in symptomatic babies or stool shows presence of ova and cyst.

Zental or Albendazole, dosage is 10 ml or 400 mg for child more than 2 years and 200 mg for less than 2 years irrespective of body weight. Exact dosage can be confirmed in consultation with your Pediatrician.
