Question: Is it safe to use Emergency Contraceptive Pill (unwanted 72) during breastfeeding? The baby is nearly 10 months old, but depend mainly on breastfeeding, more than 6 times daily, also no period yet.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX
we have nearly 10 months old baby and my wife is breastfeeding the baby. she has not have her period yet after the delivery of the baby in last October. The baby is mainly depending on mother's milk. So, I would like to know if my wife takes an UNWANTED-72, an ECP pill,whether it is safe for both the mother and the baby and there is no side effect as a result of consuming the pill?

Sorry for the long delay in my response.
As we discuss before that ECP is safe if taken during breastfeeding but my opinion is that before taking the medication she should go for a home urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.
