Question: Hi Dr XXXXXXX

This us XXXXXXX again. I asked you about taking crocin yesterday for my 7 month pregnant wife. I gave her a crocin which gave a her a relief for 2 hrs but fever came back. So today we went to her gynac and she advised to meet her husband who is ENT specialist. He examined her and gave flue tablets(zocef 250, robnik20, Febre 500 and Zincold)). On top of this he gave ferver tab prescription. Which is i guess nothing but tamflue shot. I read on internet somewhere that tamiflue should be given to pregnant woman only in case of emergency. Can you please help us on this? Shall we start the dose of tamiflue? Others we have started already and it is 7 days course.

Brief Answer:
Can you upload prescription or drug name screenshot ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX
Glad to hear from you again.
It is wise that you had the Gynec consultation and also an ENT consultation.
I guess there is some typing error.
You mean Rabonik 20 I think, not Robnik 20.
I am not aware of anything called ferver tab.
I think there might be a typing error here too.
Could you please upload the prescription or the screenshots of the actual drug name ?
I would then revert with due opinions.
Looking forwar to hearing from you.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Yes you should be taking it.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the update.
And please do not apologize, it is doctors as a fraternity who have to apologize for generally lousy handwriting !
I have gone through the prescription.
The tablet in question is Fluvir, and you are right, this is a medication to prevent influenza.
As you are well aware of the raging epidemic in the country, this is justified.
Unexplained cough and cold could be a harbinger of influenza, and this condition is somehow more complicated and associated with more serious outcomes in pregnant females, as compared to the general population.
Oseltamivir ( Fluvir ) is recommended for prophylaxis of pregnant women, keeping in mind the general epidemic, and the deadly complications in pregnant ladies.
So yes, please be assured, you should , and can, take this too as part of the comprehensive treatment.
I am attaching a link, here , since you are very interested and intelligent , and I am sure you would go through it, and be more convinced -

Please particularly read the paragraph on- ' who should be receiving tamiflu '.
I hope I helped to clarify your doubts.
please feel free to reach out anytime for more clarifications.
Good day !

Thanks a lot for another detaiiled answer. Everytime i get an answer from you it does give more confidence boosting. Thanks for the same.
wanted to ask one more thing, since she had sour throat we gave a cup of turmeric milk to her in the morning, is it harmful for baby? I understand turmeric is hot in nature and should be taken carefully. Unfortunately i read it later and now i have decided not to give her. But hope the earlier one will not cause any issue...

Thanks in advance again.

Brief Answer:
It will cause no harm, relax.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you so much for your kind words.
Turmeric is an antioxidant, and can definitely be given with milk for sore throat.
She can gargle the throat with lukewarm saline.
Also lozenges like XXXXXXX Tus Q, Strepsils, can be used .
A teaspoon of honey with some turmeric also can be given.
There is no adverse effect of minimal intake of turmeric in pregnancy.
After all, we use it so commonly in XXXXXXX food preparations.
No the earlier intake, or occasional future use, will not cause any issue.
Take care.
