Is Inhalation Of Melted Plastic Fumes Harmful?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: Hi doc,

I accidentally left a rice cooker lid on a heat stove for less than a minute and only to realise that the lid had some melted corner. I panicked and splashed some water on the stove to wipe the melted plastic off the stove. There were bitter fumes that I accidentally inhaled. Should I be worried? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
No need to panic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr Divakara P
Thanks for posting your query.

Well these fumes are hazardous to health but your exposure to these fumes are for very short duration, so there is no need to panic.

Just go out and breathe fresh air for an hour or so. You have done the right thing by opening up the windows . By now the fumes would have gone out and your home is safe now.

So just relax , take deep breathes in fresh air.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

Regards.
