Is Excessive Sweating A Symptom Of Anxiety?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Oct 2016
Question: Hello again sir!
This is a question that is a bit hard to explain, but I am sure you will understand.
When scared, or/and adrenalin, I get change in my heart rythm. And I do NOT mean faster pulse. I mean changes to a series of SOME kind of extrasystoles. It is like a engine misfiring, you understand?
An example: Last time I drive a racecar. Driving normal, heart is normal. At once I put my foot down, it starts with this "misfiring"- again I say NOT rapid, not faster, but misfiring. And the second I let go of the gaspedal and car slow down, it stops. This occurs sometimes also under orgasm, and very few times a short series of this happens when I am not doing anything special, but it almost always happens when I am doing adrenalin things.
I know, I have some anxiety. But this is not related to that.
I know anxiety is bad, because a couple days ago, I went to emergency room because I sat at home after eating a late dinner and started sweating from palms and forehead. My mnd immediately thought about heart attack coming, that I read about, and I saw my father in law sweating alot before he got heartattack. Emergency room say no heart attack even if he say they can not see small attacks on EKG. BUT. He also say I have a incomplete right blockage. I have had cardiologists say this before, so had that for long time. Now: Do you think this incomplete block can cause these "misfiring" when adrenalin??
I can even get extrasystoles (that doesnt feel "dangerous" but feel bad, by standing in certain positions, and stop when I shift position.
Thank you Sir. I am sure you are tired of answering my questions....
I have started going to a psychomotorist fysiotherapist that suppose to help me not make a big deal of every bodily symptom.
But this "misfiring" I had for many years, and its not connected to the anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that the your symptoms are not related to right bundle branch block.

As, you refer, it has been detected in your previous ECG a long time before.

Usually they are incidental finding and are not responsible for ectopic heart beats.

It is more probable for your symptoms to be related to anxiety. You should know that during physical and emotional stress (anxiety) adrenaline and noradrenaline are produced, leading to increased heart rate and even ectopic heart beats.

They are quite normal in normal individuals with a healthy heart.

Anyway, I would recommend performing some new tests to investigate for any other possible causes underlying those extrasystoles:

- a cardiac ultrasound
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends during a prolonged time and possibly register those ectopic heart beats
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid imbalance which could trigger this symptomatology
- complete blood count for anemia and blood electrolytes for possible imbalance.

If all the above tests result normal, there is nothing to worry about.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I would be happy to review your tests as soon as you can upload them for a second professional opinion.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
