Is A Small Bump On Upper Lip A Symptom Of Herpes?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 May 2016
Question: eruption on upper lip.
looks like a pimple but no fluid. hasn't broken in 8 days
doesn't look worse but no better either
i've never seen anything exactly like it and at 48 I've seen my fair share of zits!
is it herpes ? from what i gather on the internet, it doesn't behave like it.
It doesn't hurt either but it's annoying and I'd like to know if I should consult. It's been only 8 days but still.

Brief Answer:
Not typical of herpes at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this bump that you have reported. I have reviewed the image and this solitary bump on the upper lip is not typical of herpes. This seems to be an inflamed hair follicle following shaving. And without pains or ulceration, it makes it very less typical of herpes. I Will say monitor only for now and I do expect spontaneous resolution. Most important, avoid constantly picking on this so as not to delay healing. I will no recommend any consults at this time unless this doesn't resolve within another 7days.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Hello.

I just want to make sure it can't be anything related to a STD. If not herpes, could it be anything else ? Hoperfully as you said, it will resolve itself but I can't help being worried.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
For now, it is not suggestive of STD!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Being worried is inevitable in this case. I understand you perfectly. However, with more assurance from your doctors at this time, you should feel comforted unless something else comes up. For now, this is not suggestive of an STD. Exercise some patience and we will brace over this.
