Is SCS Procedure Advisable To Manage Pain After Neck Surgeries?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: I have had two surgeries on my neck. I have a plate, two rods and twelve screws from C4 - C7. Unfortunately the operations did not ease the pain from falling off a ladder.
Now they want to do a SCS and put a paddle lead in C3. Problem is, there is no trial due to the hardware and scar tissue in the neck.

Neurologist say no, as the nerves and body have all ready taken a beating. If I turn my neck the wrong way at the wrong time, a burning can happen inside the body and the only relief is steroids, which do beat me up, but it is the only thing that will give me relief.

I'm not sure as to go through the SCS operation or not. Vibration is my worst enemy, as that will really bring on the burning of the nerves. I can't use an electric razor, vacuum, push a lawn mower or go for long car rides without burning up (sunburn under the skin).

Will the paddle leads vibrate inside the body? Will they cause more harm than good.

Brief Answer:
Paddle leads will help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) uses electrical impulses to relieve chronic pain of the back, arms and neck. It is believed that electrical pulses prevent pain signals from being received by the brain. SCS candidates include people who suffer from neuropathic pain (pain marked by burning, tingling or numbness) and for whom conservative treatments have failed. It does not cause a vibration inside the body and the electrical signals discharged are small ones. This is not likely to cause any further harem to you.
It can rather bring you relief if put in the right place.
I hope this answers your query.
