Question: Can I give psylium husks to a three year old with constipation?
Answered by Dr. Muhammad Sareer Khalil 3 hours later
Brief Answer:
Psyllium is not recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Psyllium is not recommended for children under the age of 6 as its safety and efficacy in that age group is not established.

Fluids deficit is a common cause of hard stool and constipation. Give plenty of fluids and add high fiber diet such as green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. Lactulose syrup can be given alongside gastro kinetic agent like domeperidone. If the constipation is severe then dulcolax suppositories can be considered.

Wishing you best of health

Yesturday I had a routine (age 64) endoscopy and colonoscopy(Friday). I took my AM vitamins as usual on Wednesday because I failed to read the insructions completely until Wednesday proir to the procedures. During Thursdays cleanse of 4 Dulcolax tablets at noon then at 3pm beginning to drink Miralax 238g mixed with 2 quarts of orange gatorade every 20 minutes(which I completed about 6:15pm, I was very bloated and only started to defacate at 5:45pm and continued to do so every few minutes or so of small amounts of watery stool . I vomited about 1/2 cup clear acidic scretions Sometime after midnight, my abdomen stared hurting and continues to do so at this time on Saturday about 1:30pm. My question is; could the vitamins(which I should have stopped taking 5 days prior to procedure that be stuck in my transverse colon or anywhere in my colon?

Hi, My name is, my mom just had a cancerous polyp removed and it got me thinking about my own health a little. Im 22 years old and live a relatively healthy life (although I have a very active metabolism ). I have one concern which I ve never really dealt with which after talking to my mom I would like to get more information. Periodically (maybe once every 1 or 2 months?) I get a very bad pain in the middle or end of my bowel movement . It usually lasts no more than a few minutes but it is a very nauseating pain. If i do feel it coming then it is a matter of just waiting a couple minutes and it will slowly fade away. Its hard to pinpoint but can be felt gernerally in the rectum and gonads . It is not like any other typical pain i have experienced, it is dull but almost crippling. there is no blood in my stool and I feel that my bowel movements are relatively healthy. Have you ever heard of anything like this before? Thank you for your Help -

My wife, 82, had a stroke 2 1/2 years ago. Since then she often needs to have a laxative. I give her the Dulcolax tablet for women. I give her only one. Some times I cut the little pill in half. She doesn't get any action from this half. If I give her a full tablet, it is too much most of the time. Do you think that one of your stool softeners might work better for her? for her?

I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow morning. I took the Dulcolax at 1:40PM. It is now 5:30PM and I haven't had a bowel movement yet. I haven't had anything to drink-besides the water to swallow the Dulcolax-since about 9:30AM. I want to know two things:
1.Am I allowed to drink clear liquids before I start drinking the Golytely?
2.If I don't have a bowel movement by 6 hours after having taken the Dulcolax should I start drinking the Golytely anyway? Solomon Rubin
