Question: HeAugust 23.llo...Husband 73yrs had accident {over handlebars during triathlon race) cracked helmut...landed on back! Went from Canada to NYC with no bowel movements for 5 days. CAT scan..nothing broken. Had a few days of normal bowel activity after Chiro apt. Accident August 23. Nothing for 8 days now. Takes Milanta.
Going back to chiropractor tonight. Help!

HI and thanks so much for this query.

Is he in pain? The most likely cause of this constipation would be pain and the use of pain medications. I will suggest that you report his medications to me. He should be on a laxative. I normally recommend dulcolax to my patients. In addition, increased fiber, vegetable, fluids and fruits intake to help ameliorate the bowel transit and relief the constipation.

Mylanta alone wouldn’t help much with this constipation. We need to get more of the above recommendations going as well.
