Cross infections can occur from -
surgical procedures
urinary catheters
intravenous canuulas
Central venous catheters,
infected bandages, swabs
infected masks
unsterilised instruments like tongue depressor

The most common cause of cross infection is the failure of hospital staff to properly wash their hands after taking off latex gloves or before wearing a new pair. Hand hygiene is the most important step in preventing cross infection .
