Question: I'm a 29 year old female, married for the past 3years trying to conceive from a year on and off. My periods we're irregular before marriage doctor diagnosed with hormonal imbalance but it was in control because I was taking ayurvedic medicines. After marriage the irregularity began and it became difficult to calculqte ovulation date as the periods were erratic sometimes the flow was normal and sometimes light. Did tests and ruled out pcod, no thyroid, prolactin normal. It seems that there is no ovulation happening. Husband's sperm analysis is normal. Please suggest as I want to have a baby soon.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query in "Ask A Doctor",

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern,

Since you have irregular periods, it can be a sign of ovarian dysfunction. Also since all the blood tests done have come back normal, I would suggest it best for you to consult with an gynaecologist for further management.

Your doctor may ask for repeated USGs to study the formation of mature follicle and may start your on clomiphene for inducing ovulation if found to have anovulatory cycles.

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to reduce any excess weight, avoid any undue stress or tension, eat healthy foods.

I hope this helps,

Let me know if I can assist you further,

regards

Thank u for addressing my query doctor. The last sonoghraphy that I did on the 13th day of my cycle there were 4-5 follicles out. If which 3 were above 20mm. Since my husband was not in town couldn't take the treatment further. Recently we shifted to a new place and the fertility expert here directly referred us to undergo IUI which I am not convinced.

Hi again,
Thanks for replying back,

Sorry for the inadvertent delay in writing back,

Yes, you may need to re-initiate the folliculometry for complete study of ovulation and the formation of mature follicle. This will help the doctor to decide on further management.

I personally do not think IUI is the best option for you, as it is usually helpful in cases of low sperm motility. But since your husband has normal sperm count and factors, you can discuss this with your doctor and can decide on initiation of ovulation inducing medicines.

I hope this helps,
Please feel free to discuss further,

Regards
