I Ve Been Diagnosed With Galstones Last Week. Ultrasound Shows

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jan 2020
Question: I ve been diagnosed with galstones last week. Ultrasound shows up 3 stones about 7 mm. I am 61 year old woman.
The doctor told me that everything is fine . About 2 years ago I ve a galblader attack it lasts about 2 hours. That was the only attack I have till now.
I became a little bit nervous cause I red on the net that galstones are dangerous ,can cause inflamation, and cancer too.

My question is how often I have to go to check my galstones? Once a year, month?

Best regards

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hi Terzic,

Gallstones are very common with a life-time risk of 20-50%. Gallstones can lead to inflammation of the gall bladder, bile duct or pancreas. Further to this, they can cause socially debilitating pain - which does not seem to be the case for you (?).
Gallstones do not cause cancer, so you should not worry about this, and if you have only had one gallstone attack within two years, my advise would be to just wait and see, and take NSAID (diclofenac or such) if you feel a gallstone attack coming. If the attacks become more frequent, you could consider having your gall bladder removed. Absolutely no need for regular ultrasound scans.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you doctor for a quick answer.

My bloodwork is fine nothing seems to be wrong.

I feel a bit of discomfort in middle upper abdomen when I press my belly.
It lasts for about 3 weeks. (I ate a lot of gresy food for a long time)

My liver looks a bit fatty on Ultrasound, And my gallblader is S shaped my doctor told me-its probably a specific form . ( is it a problem I dont know).

The doctor send me to a gastroscopy today for a check.

I dont know why is it necessary.....

Brief Answer:
The shape of the gallbladder doesn't matter

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

The shape of the gallbladder is not important and not associated with any disease. I agree with your general practioner that a gastroscopy is a good idea to rule out other differential diagnoses (acid reflux, stomach ulcer, etc.).

Please let me know if you have further questions. Best wishes.

I ve just finished my gastroscopy. At the end they woke me up and the doctor told me that they didnt find anything suspicious. I guess it is good.

It lasts about 15 minutes.

I have no idea what I need to do after this.

Brief Answer:
Good to hear

Detailed Answer:
Hi again Terzic,

Good to hear about the gastroscopy.

In my opinion there is nothing in particular you have to do now. Only use the next few weeks or months to assess if or how you are bothered by the upper abdominal pain. Also, if the pain intensifies or becomes constant and associated with fever, it could suggest complicated gallstone disease (cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis) which merits acute medical attention.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
You will most certainly survive

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

The size of the stones themselves in the flicker of a moment they were seen on ultrasound is not important. However, your symptoms definitely sound like they are originating from your gall bladder, so a surgical removal would also be my recommendation.

How do you feel about surgery?

Thanx for your answer.

The doctor told me that he is gonna made me an apointment in january of 2020 for gallblader laporoscopic removal ,he said thats the best solution.
The stones are very tiny he said and that is the problem they should move .

Until that I have to keep myself away from grasy fat food, bacon, jogurt....

I hope I will survive till that.

Brief Answer:
No need for special diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi again Terzic,

There is no need for a special diet after removal of your gallbladder, usually you can eat as you want immediately after surgery.

Good idea to get a follow-up on the possible angiomyolipoma, although you shouldn't worry, as it is most likely completely benign.

Is there anything about the operation you are unclear about? If so, please let me know so I can clarify. Best wishes.

I hope its gonna be done in about 3 days in hospital.

I don't know how long am I suppose to be on special diet after removal?

Also on ultrasound the radiologyst detect on my left kidney an isolated angiomyolipoma 16x16 mm. I am planing to show it to the urologyst. The radiologist told me it is benign but itt needs to be followed up by a specialist.

Thanx for the answer.

When I press the place where the galbladder is I feel a bit of discomfort.

Is it cause off the stones in galblader? That feels a bit strange .

I feel it only if I push it there with hand. (should it be the grassy liver)

I dont know the exact appointmen for surgery yet....

Brief Answer:
The discomfort can be the stones

Detailed Answer:
Hi again Terzic,

The discomfort you describe can easily be the gallstones. Alternatively some dyspepsia. Fatty liver does not cause pain per se. For some, the simple palpation of the abdomen will cause discomfort, regardless of any existing disease.

Does it makes sense to you?
