Posted on Fri, 19 Jun 2020
Question: I keep having chest tightness, heaviness that alternates pain along with throat constriction and shortness of breath. I have been tested for COVID 19 3 times which are all negative. My chest xray has been normal in the ED and they did Chest CT as well which was normal. I dont have asthma as per pulmonologist. My pulmonologist has did some inflammatory testing which he said its normal. I did echocardiogram and 48 hour holter monitor with cardiologist all are normal. I met with a GI doctor who gave me acid supression therapy even though he did not do an endoscopy thats not helping What should be my next step is investigating what is causing this, for example does cancer cause this, genetic disorders, ike what are the possible causes im truly suffering

Brief Answer:
Maybe Panic/anxiety disorder!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. I have reviewed them fully. There has been extensive evaluation and am confident nothing fatal is ongoing. At this time, I recommend you get evaluated for panic/anxiety disorder.

I hope this helps and guides. Keep me updated about this.

Brief Answer:
Elevated platelets has nothing to do with this.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Elevated platelets cannot explain your symptoms. These platelets are well within normal range and I am not worried about.

You may say yo are not stressed, but I also sense you are quite worried about the reported symptoms. This probably explains why you are having all these symptoms without any findings on several tests showing no abnormalities.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further complaints.

Hello,

Can there be a muscular, neurological, or genetic component that needs to be investigated. I just fear going straight into anxiety medication when i have an undiagnosed condition that could turn fatsl if not treated early?

Brief Answer:
Medications are not first line!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

My advise is not to seek medications first. Any seasoned doctor would provide measures aimed at relieving the stressors and providing alternate coping mechanisms. We commonly refer to these as cognitive behavioral techniques. I will not recommend medications as first line.

Given your age and all i have gotten from you, it is very unlikely that there is an underlying organic cause to this.

Thanks and wish you well.
