Question: I have my 1st OBS appointment on 24th Oct 2019, gestational sac is 17mm with no yolk sac present. Done another appointment today on 9th Nov 2019. Sac measured at 36mm with a 4mm yolk sac but no fetus is seen. Doctor adviced I should be 7 weeks 6 days pregnant now and the above feature indicates a failed pregnancy. He suggested a D&C one week later. Should I wait a bit longer?

Brief Answer:
This is a failed pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
According to the ultrasound scans there is a minimal growth of G sac in last 15 days. The yolk sac is also small for the actual gestational period. This is a failed pregnancy. This is not likely to develop in a normal baby. You can wait if you want to and can contact the gynecologist once the bleeding starts spontaneously.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Dr. Rakhi Tayal.
