I Have A Red Itchy Rash On The Inside Of

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Jun 2019
Question: I have a red itchy rash on the inside of my elbows, which has spread to my forearms. I am trying not to scratch it, but the itching is unbearable. It started one week ago, and was getting better. However, it worsened today and is now worse than originally. I have tried cortisone cream and cornstarch powder, which improved it but made my skin flake, leaving the skin below very red. I tried Calgel (calamine gel) which seems to have worsened it, and caused it to spread to my forearms. I have no known allergies, did not come in contact with poison ivy or oak, and have not changed my detergent, body wash, shampoo, etc.

Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to Ask a doctor.
To start with,I want you to share a few points like do you have fever,do you have coryzal symptoms, are you taking some drugs for some other illnesses, did you get an added undue exposure of sun or some other irritants/chemicals in last few days and do you have any co morbidity like diabetes.
If you click a picture of rash and send it ,this will help me to evaluate it further.
For the time being, you need to take anti histaminics like levocetrizine to get relief from itching.Apply coconut oil to it ,it will help too.
Don't use soap over it as it is acidic and will increase the dryness thus increasing the itch. You can apply some good quality moisturizer.
Don't apply corticosteroids as if rash is of infective origin, this will add fuel to fire.
Keep yourself well hydrated.
I would revert after getting information from your side.
Regards
