I Have A Question Regarding Antibiotics Macrobid With Cipro 500mg For Bug Bite Will Drug Have Side Effect?

Question: Hello, I have a question regarding antibiotics and my UTI experience.
The beginning of XXXXXXX I had a UTI and was prescribed macrobid. The infection was gone for about 2 weeks. Then came back about a week and a half ago. It took the urologist about a week to give me the results from the urine test and they were positive for UTI infection. During the time I was waiting for the results, I got this bug bite out in the woods and it was starting to spread up my leg. An urgent care physician gave me Cipro 500mg every 12 hrs for 5 days. I finished the 5 days and the bug bite healed. I thought that my UTI would be cured also but it did not clear. Here I am with a second prescription for Cipro 500mg every 12 hours for 10 days. I am aware that the dosing is double the amount than for the bug bite. The urologist prescribed me Cipro not knowing I had that bug bite episode. My question is can I take the Cipro even though I just had finished Cipro yesterday? Will it build an antibiotic resistance? I had never taken it before prior.
I’m not feeling well and I just want this UTI gone ASAP and want to avoid going into the doctor for a different antibiotic- but if I have to I will. (I’ve never had a problem with reoccurring UTI)

Also I was drinking moderate alcohol through out the Cipro 5 day course. Does moderate alcohol interfere with antibiotics and healing of infections?

You have not mentioned your gender and age in your query which is important to make precise suggestions .

1) What is your age and Gender ?
2) Was Ciprofloxacin prescribed by Urologist after doing urine culture ?

Since you have already taken Ciprofloxacin for five days and got the recurrence of UTI I would suggest you to do urine culture to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

In the mean while start taking broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water to keep urine dilute

Taking alcohol in moderate quantity will not affect action of antibiotics.

My age is 26 and my gender is female.

No you did not answer my question.
If you re read my question- it says I was prescribed by the urologist Cipro for the UTI culture being positive for infection.

I also had fished Cipro from the bug bite yesterday. The urologist gave me Cipro to clear the infection also and I could start that today or tomorrow.

Will it hurt that I just finished a round of Cipro yesterday and will start another round tomorrow for UTI?

When urine culture is done the sensitivity pattern of antibiotic is checked for many antibiotics that are commonly used and we generally prescribe antibiotic that kills the bacteria in most minimum concentration which has not been mentioned in your query .(This is mentioned in full culture and sensitivity report issued by laboratory which you have not uploaded ))

If there is recurrence of infection It is a customary practice to switch on to other antibiotic to which bacteria are reported to be sensitive .

You may continue with taking Ciprofloxacin twice daily as suggested by your Urologist .

Also does smoking moderate amounts of marijuana interfere with the healing process or antibiotics?

Can I have intercourse while being treated for UTI with my partner? Will I pass on an infection?

Is it true that being in tight clothing or a wet bathing suit for too long can cause a UTI?

I am on the birth control pill sprintec and do not like condoms.
So do I have to wait until all antibiotics are finished to have “safe” sex? Do the antibiotics interfere with the protection the pill provides against getting pregnant? Even while using the pull out method with my partner?

I wonder if that’s how I got the UTI again because we had intercourse a couple times on my last UTI episode

We also had intercourse a week ago when the infection just stated showing symptoms.
He hasn’t shown any sign of symptoms as far as I know... If he caught a UTI from me, are they the same symptoms as a female would have ex. burning when urinating, frequency and urgency?

If he did have a UTI would he be able to tell by the symptoms?

Also can I catch a UTI/ bacteria from going swimming in a fresh water pond?

One can acquire UTI from the water in swimming pool or fresh water pond .
Females do get UTI frequently and easily due to ascending infection from vaginal opening being very close to urethral opening .and also due to migration of bacteria from anal region to urethra due to its close proximity.
