I Had Sex With My Boyfriend And It Was Unprotected.

Question: I had sex with my boyfriend and it was unprotected. We thought the condom was on (long story) but he ejaculated inside of me. 1 hour later, I panicked and took the Plan B pill. I have never been on birth control and I have never taken any form of medication like this before. It’s been a few hours now and I’m cramping a little bit. I’m in my ovulation week and I’m projected to get my period on the 12th or 15th of this month. Today is XXXXXXX 1st. What are my chances of being pregnant?

Brief Answer:
The chances of pregnancy are 5 % after taking plan B pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

The cramping can be related to the ovulation.

I see that you have already taken plan B pill one hour after intercourse.

In this case the chances of pregnancy are only 5 %.

You can do a pregnancy test at least two weeks after intercourse if you don't get the menstruation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

My cramping could be due to the ovulation, meaning what? Does this mean I am ovulating and going to get pregnant, or, the pill is working in my favor?

Brief Answer:
The chances are that the pill is working in your favor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

Plan B works by temporarily stopping the release of an egg from the ovary if the ovulation has not occurred yet.

It prevents fertilization if ovulation has already occurred.

If the egg has already been fertilized, plan B prevents it from attaching to the wall of the uterus.

So there is a great chance that plan B is working in your favor.

I suggest always to do the pregnancy test in case of missing menstruation.

Hope it helps.

Take care dear,

So if I get my period this month, should I still worry and wait till my next me struck cycle next month? Or, should I not worry if I infact get my period this month?

I ask this question because I am already in my ovulation period since I am projected to get my period in the next 12-15 days. So, if I get my period this month, should I still worry for the following month and take a pregnancy test? Or am I in the clear?

I am just very worried. Sorry if these questions sound silly

Brief Answer:
If you get the periods this month there is no probability to be pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

If you get the periods this month there is no probability to be pregnant.

So, you should not be worried.

If you don't get your period at the predicted time, you should do the pregnancy test.

Hope it helps.

Take care dear,
