Question: I had been taking Trazadone 400mg and luvox 300mg for depression. My doctor prescribed prednisone 10mg 2 tablets 2x daily for 5 days and 10mg 2 tablets daily for another 5 days for cough. However, since taking Prednisone, my insomnia had worsen dramatically. I stopped taking prednisone after 10 days but my insomnia had not improved but just worsen. Are the insomnia side effects from taking prednisone permanent? Thanks very much in advance for your help. are there any adverse drug interaction between prednisone and trazadone?

Brief Answer:
Insomnia caused by prednisolone is temporary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service

Prednisolone is a steroid drug and this is known to cause insomnia as side effect. Change in cortisol levels is the reason for this side effect. This may take sometime to settle and no need to get worry.

In the mean time if you are not able to sleep properly then you can take drugs like low dose benzodiazepines on SOS basis. But keep one thing in mind that insomnia with prednisolone is temporary.

There are no serious significant drug interactions between Prednisolone and Trazodone.

Thanks.
