Question: I had a total of 2 shots of Depo-Provera; the last one in March. I have not had a period since March however I travelled abroad in September and started bleeding lightly. I took this as s sign of my period returning but have not bled since coming back. I’m getting worried now as I am looking to start a family.

Brief Answer:
most by 6 months but unfortunately can take longer

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Though the injection is given every 3 months for contraception, it is thought that the medication can leave remnants for 6 months thought it can take some women up to 1 year, rarely longer. It is thought however, that normal levels of fertility should return to the majority within a year of the last dose.

Some women can have a return to normal periods and fertility as soon as the 3 month time period is completed but this varies from one person to the next.
There are some women for example who have bleeding while on depo whereas most have no bleeding at all so the response is individual

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
