I Got A Tick Bite On A Hike Near My

default
Posted on Sun, 12 Apr 2020
Question: I got a tick bite on a hike near my house on Thursday March 19th. The bite was on my neck, just at my hairline, and was accompanied by a swollen lymph node. I removed the tick and do not seem to have fever but am worried about the swollen lymph node. I have a bit of fatigue as well though I am probably hyper aware because of Covid 19. Do I just wait and see how I feel over the next week? I am allergic to doxycycline which makes things trickier. I live in Western Massachusetts where there are a number of Tickborne diseases so I am concerned whenever I am bitten...

Brief Answer:
The swollen lymph node may be due to local inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Most of the tick bites are harmless and settle with minor injury inflammation. The common tick borne disease are Lymes disease and typhus, but you don’t mentioned any symptoms like rash or fever consistent with tick borne disease.
In your case the swollen node may be due to ongoing inflammation secondary to tick bite.
As of now you can consult a general practitioner and start a short course of antibiotics preferably amoxicillin/clavulanate empirically.
It has got nothing to do with COVID infection.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks.
