I Am On Several Medications. I Need Magnesium For RLS

Posted on Thu, 7 Feb 2019
Question: I am on several medications. I need magnesium for RLS and the meds I take that deplete my body of magnesium. I need this magnesium for muscle aches, pain and muscle spasms. I take Levothyroxine, pantapropzol, blood pressure meds. and Resolve (or something like that for osteoporosis it is an IV solution once a year). Also that AREDS for mac degeneration, Co Q10, multi vits, vit D 3000mg per day, warfarin for history of A fib. I rarely have A fib anymore. metopropolol for that. I take Calcium also. I have a terrible time getting all these meds in with all the interactions that I know of with them

Brief Answer:
interactions definitely likely

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The only list seen unfortunately, is the one written into the questions, there is no separate list of medication. The list that is seen- levothyroxine, magnesium, pantoprozole, warfarin, medication for osteoporosis which may be reclast, metoprolol, calcium, co enzyme q, multivitamins, vit d.
Blood pressure meds (other than metoprolol which is sometimes used for high blood pressure, are not seen)

As you stated, there is a definite risk of interaction with multiple conditions requiring multiple meds.
Warfarin particularly, interacts with a number of different medications and foods.

Levothyroxine increases the effect of warfarin which increases the risk of bleeding, there are newer medications to prevent clotting such as xarelto, that would be safer.
Coenzyme q can interact slightly with warfarin, it slightly decreases its effect.

Calcium also has the potential to decrease the effect of levothyroxine and metoprolol meaning that these meds may not work as well as they should.
There is minor interaction between levothyroxine and pantoprozole.

It is possible that the effect of calcium on levo and metoprolol may not be significant. Your thyroid function may still be okay and the metoprolol may still have enough of an effect.

The interaction with warfarin is more of a concern and would need to be monitored.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

What magnesium should I take? Oxide is no good, lotions burn my slin, soakiny fret doesn't do much. I think mag citrate gave me horrible diarrhea. What about mag taurate, or aspartate?

Brief Answer:
can consider the taurate

Detailed Answer:
HI

Both have advantages. Magnesium taurate may help to improve the function of the heart and also may play a role in insulin sensitivity (help the insulin in your body to work better)

Magnesium asparate has good bioavailability- this means that when it is taken, the body can absorb and use a lot of it

With a history of high blood pressure which can potentially affect the heart, you may want to consider the taurate
