Question: I am almost 4 weeks post op from a abdominal wall reconstruction, hernia repai and scar tissue removed from previous 28 abdominal surgeries. About 5 days ago I noticed a huge lump (bigger then my 10cm Hernia) come up with a lot of pain. It’s very hard can not be pushed in even if I could handle the pain it is also bruised over the entire area. Is this a normal effect from the surgery? Should I go to the Er?

Brief Answer:
It could be due to Infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I would like to have some more information.
1.What were the indications of multiple surgeries?
2.Whether PROLENE MESH was used for Hernia repair?
Swelling associated with pain and is not reducable could be due to Infection. It could be collection of blood (Haematoma) or Abscess.
You should consult your Surgeon as soon as possible.
If the pain is severe, please go to ER.
I prefer to do an Ultrasound abdomen initially which gives a clue to the diagnosis.
Please attach a pic showing the site if you do not have any objection.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your question. If you have any further questions,I will clarify.
Wish you good health and speedy recovery.
Regards
