Hx Of Symptoms: 55 Years Old Female History Of 3

Question: Hx of symptoms: 55 years old female history of 3 drinks/day. IBS, PTSD, gallbladder and full hysterectomy many years ago. On and off (few times a year) light (pinch like, lasting seconds) pain under RIGHT rib for many years. Sometimes it feels like gallbladder, sometimes it feels more like the ribs, bruised feeling. I've also had XXXXXXX horse like muscle spams in right rib, stretching out helps. Since last week of December, pain was light on and off but everyday day which is new. Not severe. Gassy. lots of stools, first normal, then other ones diarrhea like, bulky and fatty? there is no pain in abdomen rights under rib cage now, but had light back pain under right rib cage which felt like gas pressure., but it wasn't moving. I woke up with it and it was gone. (this was first time it happened) it's not severe. Very mild but i worry because of history of drinking which I've cut back this last year, then quit completely 3 weeks ago. I have no other symptoms, no nausea, no yellow skin, no itching. Only symptoms are random mild pinch under right rib cage, or stomach. The stools, I've had like this for a long time, assumed it was ibs. I had full physical 15 months ago, all blood tests where normal. Abdomen looks and feels normal.

I haven't drank alcohol since XXXXXXX 31st, I started taking pantoprazole 40mg last week of December for 3 weeks and symptoms went away completely. 4 days after stopping pantoprazole, I started feeling a bit of a pinch again. I took it another 2 days, pain went away. I quit, 4 days and again, felt slight discomfort. I saw doctor last week, felt my abdomen and my liver is normal size. Doctor sending me for blood test to be sure but isn't concerned. No other tests ordered. What should I do? Pantoprazole works well but how long can I take this medication for? if I quit it and pain comes back what else can I take? Should I take vitamins?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Since pantoprazole is providing relief, your symptoms are acidity related.
Since there is recurrence of symptoms on stopping pantoprazole, endoscopy may have to be done to look for ulcers.
Was endoscopy done?

Not yet. How long should I take pantoprazole to treat acid related discomfort? When this happens, discomfort is mild , I also have more gas. When taking pantoprazole, it all goes away.
