Question: I had been having a headache since Tuesday (13th March) which I ignored earlier as it was minor, but I had noticeable pangs when I move my head around. I also had very minor congestion (NO runny nose NOR stuffy nose, but very slight uneasiness in breathing). I also no not notice phlegm in coughs. Till Thursday I did not see a doctor as I did not have any fever till Thursday. On Thursday I developed fever and started shivering during the night, which is unusual, I had to get a very warm blanket and in morning I had about 99 to 100 fever. I then went to see a doctor and he prescribed following. I measured my BP it was 116/45, (I generally tend to have low BP)
1) Azikem 250
2) XME 200 (cfixime 200)
3) Nimagyl (since I did not have fever he did not give fever medicine)
4) Cof-VYN
5) Another Anti Allergy tablet (I cant see its name, Montelukast tablets is the only thing I see)
After taking medicine for 2 days, I developed 102 fever (If I did not take NICIP paracetamol, I would develop 102-103 fever) and felt cold

It was then he prescribed Paracetamol 625 to be taken 3 times in a day along with Sypalfin. Shivering stopped and temperature dropped again.

I am on the last day of the course suggested by Doctor but still I have 99-100 fever after 5-6 hours of taking Paracetamol. Also the headache is still there (its not acute and I can live with it though but I am sure if I stop paracetamol the fever will rise up)

Brief Answer:

Need to report back to the doctor.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

From what I understand, you developed gradually increasing headache since last Tuesday (5 days). Fever started for 3 days. You also had minor congestion (breathing difficult) and no other symptoms. You have been prescribed antibiotics (a couple of them) along with antihistamines and mucolytic drug.

These antibiotic generally take up to 3 days for benefits to occur.

But if fever still continues to persist beyond 100 deg F and the headache, I will recommend getting back to the doctor. In my opinion, you need a better analgesics like Aceclofenac + Paracetamol (tab Dolokind plus) twice or thrice daily.

Your doctor should also consider switching to another antibiotic like augmentin if there are features of respiratory congestion.

In addition to the change of medications, your doctor should also consider performing a basic blood test to rule out causes of infection.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
