It depends on size of hemorrhoids but in most cases it is felt as burning pain during and after defecation. However, in larger hemorrhoids, it can be felt as some stuck object or so called tenesmes.
Also, it can be caused by polyps, or fissures for example. The best way to evaluation it is anoscopy done by proctologist.
