default
Posted on Fri, 18 Jan 2019
Question: Hello, My Father (Age :65) is suffering from back pain recently. He has arthritis from past 3 years. Recently he felt numbness in the right thigh and after a week time he started to get the back pain too. Consulted an orthopedic doctor and upon checking the X-ray, he insisted some pain killers and calcium.
Its been 3 weeks now and there is no improvement yet. What else could be the problem?

Please provide your valuable advise.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a slipped disc.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.

I have gone through the medical history in detail.

From the symptoms, it seems that your father may be suffering from a slipped disc in the lumbar spine. This often leads to low back pain, pain and/or numbness in legs.

I would suggest you get his LUMBAR SPINE MRI done to confirm the diagnosis.

Just taking painkillers and calcium will not help.

Depending upon the reports of MRI, we can start him on physiotherapy, back exercises, lumbar traction etc.

Till then he should use a lumbar back support belt while ambulating.

I would be eager to know his MRI report.

Get back to me once his reports are ready.

I hope the answer was useful.

Thank you.

Kind regards,
