Brief Answer:
Information for prevention of styes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I'm sorry to hear that you have been getting this frequently. That you have been using heat is a good idea for treating these as you have been doing, but also using heat on a regular basis may help prevent styes from forming too. I recommend standing over the sink and repeatedly rewetting a wash cloth with hot water and applying it to your eye, for several minutes a few times a day.

In addition, try to be mindful to not touch your eye with your fingers or hands unless you have immediately before that washed well with soap and water and touched nothing else in between.

If you wear eye makeup, throw away old make up as it may be contaminated or irritating.

If the edge of your eye lid is red and inflamed, then you might have blepharitis - an inflammation of the eye lid (usually near the lashes). If that is the case, see an eye doctor to figure out what the cause is. Sometimes it is caused by the oil glands around the lashes becoming blocked, and sometimes it is from allergies or bacteria.

So - try these things, but if they don't help, then it is time to see the eye doctor.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
