How Can A Benign Pancreatic Cyst Be Treated?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Feb 2017
Question: I have a 3.3 x 2.4 cm unilocular cyst in my pancreas which in the last 2 years has doubled in size. Should I have a EUS to further check it out for cancer?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and Welcome to HCM.

First, it is very likely just a benign pancreatic cyst especially if tumor marker CA19-9 is negative and I think that it can be followed with regular ultrasound check ups.

Also, if you can get the MRI scan done once a year, I don't think that EUS is required at this point and you can wait and see if there will be further enlargement.

However, it depends on you if you want to ease your minds and have eus which is the most sensitive test for pancreatic lesions, but still not 100% accurate.

Hope this is clear, feel free to ask in case of any further doubts.

Wish you good health.
Regards

Thank you. That is what I feel best in doing. You have helped me in easing my mind. Had been told by a medical friend that the EUS with needle aspiration is a very tedious procedure and probably best to not mess with the cyst. God bless you.

You're most welcome

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, this is not routine procedure and may carry certain risks. So it should not be done unless there is high suspicion of any malignacy.

You're most welcome.
