Question: Hi, I have been having on going anterior should pain, internal rotation of the shoulder is very painful. I have rested the shoulder for 6 week and done rehab exercises, no relief . I went for an Mri last week and it revealed mild sub doltiod bursitis. The rotator cuff and labrum were fine. In your opinion would a Coritsone shot help?

Brief Answer:
Cortisone shot will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Bursitis suggests an inflammation of the bursa. Local steroid shot- a cortisone shot will help in decreasing the pain and inflammation. You need to restrict the painful movements also.
After the steroid shot, regular physiotherapy will help in restoring the painless movements.
I hope this answers your query.

Hi, thanks for a great response. In your opinion how long does it take for bursitis to resolve if I start a pt program?

Brief Answer:
PT is started after inflammation subsides.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
PT can be started only after the inflammation subsides. If the inflammation and pain subsides completely in a week then you will need 3-5 weeks physiotherapy to come back to normal shoulder movement.
Hope my answer is helpful.
